Evolution of the SIM Card to eSIM and iSIM

Evolution of the SIM Card to eSIM and iSIM, RedteaSIM in place to serve as an enabler to seize the LPWAN market share.

As we race toward 5G era when cellular connectivity is ubiquitous, we would find ourselves in a world of increasingly-connected people, devices and machines in IoT where connectivity as a service ( CaaS, a concept brought up by Redtea Mobile )would be a de facto paradigm just like IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS in cloud computing stage, and the SIM technology will play a key factor.

We’d like to share a short journey of advances in SIM technology: SIM, eSIM (embedded SIM), and iSIM (integrated SIM), both can be thought of as a step further of the previous one, and came out to the market to meet use cases with more critical demands in terms of industrial design simplicity, power and efficiency advances, cost reduction, and SIM lifecycle management optimization etc.

iSIM is a perfect match for LPWAN

Tapping into the 200 billion telco market, LPWAN is predicted to be one of the most fast-growing segment with use cases including NB-IoT and CAT-M1, especially at this moment when the Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) includes International Mobile Telecommunications-2020 (IMT-2020) 5G standard at the ITU-R Working Party 5D (WP5D) #35 meeting.

We’ve seen an increasing trend of LPWAN application across multiple sectors including Utilities, Logistics and Transportation, Agriculture, and Smart Cities etc, addressing most limitations of cellular network (like power consumption, gaps of coverage, data capacity etc)Based on integrated SIM technology, RedteaSIM emerges as an enabler for carriers and device manufacturers to seize the LPWAN market share in the 5G era.

RedteaSIM is a lower-cost, higher-efficient, and equally secure alternative to the traditional SIM card to meet the growing demand for large-scale IoT deployment, in particular for LPWAN (NB-IoT and Cat-M) applications.

RedteaSIM — specially designed for LPWAN (NB-IoT and Cat-M)

RedteaSIM is committed to being an important connectivity enabler for mobile operators, device manufacturers, chipset manufacturers and module manufacturers to layout their massive IoT market. By fully integrating the SIM functionality on a chipset and adding mobile operator data in a secure process at the time of module or device manufacturing, RedteaSIM behaves exactly like a classic SIM and allows the end-customer to get instant cellular connectivity without any additional actions. With the removal of the physical SIM component, RedteaSIM brings clear benefits for the device’s bill of material, power consumption, device overall design simplicity and SIM lifecycle management, and is ideally suited for a wide range of NB-IoT and Cat-M applications excelling in devices lifetime and cost, such as asset trackers, smart sensors, smart metering, wireless POS, and wearable devices, etc.
